Choral Conductor

Shelby was the winner of the 2004 National American Choral Director's Association Student Conducting Competition at the undergraduate level.  She was a choral director at Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, IA, for two years where she co-directed seven choirs.

Clarinetist

As a matriculating undergraduate student, Shelby was a clarinet performance major.  She spent the summer between her freshman and sophomore years studying at the International Hoschule fur Musik in Leipzig, Germany, in collaboration with The Julliard School.  She was a winner of the Iowa State University Concerto Competition as a clarinetist.  She was delighted to use her clarinet talents on stage in Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre's production of Candide as Paquette.

Pianist

Shelby accompanied for many ensemble and student soloists during her undergraduate and graduate work; including Lyrica (Iowa State University), Cantamus (Iowa State University), and Men's Glee Club (Michigan State University).  She accompanied for honor choirs and guest clinicians.  In her pre-collegiate days, she competed in many piano solo competitions.

Shelby thoroughly enjoyed all of her music making as a conductor, clarinetist, and pianist, but does not currently pursue these endeavours professionally.
